Day six: Cornwall Park

Take advantage of the longer evenings and stroll through one of Auckland’s favourite parks.

I don’t want to tempt fate but the past few days have me believing that spring is actually in the air. Just look at Cornwall Park which is gradually coming to life and full of spring blooms (check out Twin Oaks Drive in particular).

Cornwall Park is also home to Auckland’s iconic One Tree Hill – a wander to the summit is well rewarded with 360 degree views of Auckland.  A lesser known fact is that the park is also home to Auckland’s oldest cottage, Acacia.  Originally sited just off Shortland St, it was relocated to Cornwall Park in 1920.  At the parks information centre near the cottage, you can find out more about the history of the park and the urban farm is a huge hit with the kids. The website www.cornwallpark.co.nz has a useful interactive map.
