Day twenty nine: Te Henga Walkway

New Zealand is internationally renowned for its walking and hiking opportunities. Though often overlooked, the Auckland area is home to some fantastic day walks within touching distance of the central city. At the top of this list would have to be the Te Henga Walkway situated out at Auckland’s wild western beaches.  The track starts above Muriwai Beach and finishes on the black sand of Bethells Beach.  The track certainly isn’t for the faint hearted – it hugs the cliff the entire way – but the views to the crashing waves below are spectacular.  After a rewarding dip in the sea at the end, you’ll need to organize a lift from Bethells.  Alternatively, the energetic among you can re-trace your steps back to the start. The track is 7.5 kms long and can be walked in either direction.
