Auckland 365 is a big supporter of minority sports in NZ, so naturally we will be keeping an eye on the World Softball Championships kicking off in Albany today. New Zealand or The Black Socks (as they are commonly known) have a fine history in this sport winning the World Championships a record four times. 2009, the last time the championships were held, New Zealand was beaten by our trans-Tasman rivals Australia into second place. On home soil four years later the team will want to exact some revenge on the Aussies who will no doubt be New Zealand’s biggest rivals to the title. Tournament HQ is Rosedale Park on Auckland’s North Shore with New Zealand’s first game against Mexico this evening the 1st of March. The final will be held on Sunday the 10th of March at 1pm.
