Day two hundred and nineteen: Auckland Maritime Museum

VoyagerMaritime2Everyone likes a perk for living in this great city of ours. One that we discovered over the weekend was free entry to the Maritime Museum in the Viaduct Basin. It is well worth a visit. Visitors are guided through displays tracking the arrival of our earliest settlers, the establishment of the port of Auckland, ferry travel and of course Auckland’s love affair with recreational and competitive sailing. There is also a display dedicated to one of New Zealand’s most decorated ocean goers, Sir Peter Blake. If you time your visit right, a one hour harbour cruise is available to Auckland residents at a discounted rate.
