Day two hundred and forty three: Kiss Kiss

IMG_1847Auckland’s self styled Chinatown is brimming with excellent Asian eatery options, but the new kid on the block presents a slightly different offering and brings a bit of hipster trend to the area. Kiss Kiss is a new Northern Thai restaurant that can be found just a step off the main drag on Rockfield Ave in Balmoral. The fitout is reminiscent of a Singaporean food hall – a loud and buzzing area with long tables for big groups. The menu is small but delicious, with pork crackling and chicken nibbles for starters, some interesting curries and a super sophisticated pad thai on the mains, and some interesting extras (including a whole snapper side dish!). Brothers Beer provides craft beer on tap, but the cocktails are where it’s at, if only just for the excitement of viewing the cocktail menu through your own retro viewfinder on each table.
